Roberts stays hot, Orioles hit back-to-back home runs (Tillman update)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts followed his 3-for-3 game on Friday with a single today in the bottom of the first inning. That's four straight hits for Roberts, the latest being a line drive into right field off Philadelphia's Kyle Kendrick. Chris Davis also singled, and Matt Wieters launched an opposite-field three-run homer to left, the wind definitely providing an assist as the ball continued to carry. The Orioles weren't done. Conor Jackson followed with a long home run to left, increasing the Orioles' lead to 4-0. Wieters hadn't homered since taking Troy Patton deep in an intrasquad game. This is Jackson's first homer in an Orioles uniform. Chris Tillman disposed of the Phillies on nine pitches in the first inning, six of them for strikes. Ben Revere reached on an infield hit before Tillman retired the next three batters. Tillman threw 16 pitches in a scoreless second inning, nine for strikes. John Mayberry Jr. led off with a double into left-center field, but Wilson Betemit made a diving stop at third base and threw out Carlos Ruiz, Josh Fields struck out, and Roberts made a nice backhanded stop of Joe Mather's scorching ground ball to save a run. Tillman's fastball was mostly 91-92 mph on the stadium radar gun. No one is warming in the Orioles' bullpen, so it appears that Tillman will come back out for the third inning. Update: Michael Young hit a two-out, two-run homer off Tillman in the third inning, and the right-hander came out of the game after walking Laynce Nix. Cesar Hernandez led off the inning with a single and stole second base. Tillman struck out the next two batters, raising his total to three, before the wind carried another ball over the fence. Tillman is charged with two runs and four hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.
