Rubbing elbows with the 1970 champs

When reminded today about the 40th anniversary celebration of the 1970 World Series winning Orioles, manager Juan Samuel thought for a second. "Let's see, in the 70's I was in the Dominican and probably with no TV," he laughed. He realizes that today provides a link to a glorious past of Orioles baseball and hopes that is not lost on some of the players in his own clubhouse. "It's nice to see those guys come back. For our players to see those guys and I hope they get a chance to talk to some of those guys about what it takes to win. "It takes a lot of sacrifices. It takes showing up every day and the days that you are not feeling good enough to play, that's when you have to push yourself. Anyone can play when they are feeling good. "It's nice to see those guys come back and hopefully here in the near future some of those guys will be in that position." Samuel was asked if the current day players listen to those from a previous generation. "Some of them do. A lot of these guys are so young, but some of those guys are interested in the history of baseball. "Jones is one that he'll see someone swing or run the bases and he'll say 'didn't you use to do so like that.' I try to play it off and say 'no, no just go look at the back of the bubble gum card.' He's always teasing me about stuff." Minor league note: L.J. Hoes and Pedro Florimon have ended their rehab assignments with the Aberdeen IronBirds. Hoes hit .464-1-5 in eight games, going 13 for 28 with five doubles. Florimon batted .158-0-0, going 3 for 19 over five contests. Both players are joining the Frederick Keys.
