Sabathia wins 17th as New York routs O's

CC Sabathia pitched seven strong innings to pick up his American League-leading 17th win as the Yankees beat the Orioles 13-3 Sunday afternoon. The O's won the series but missed their chance for their first three-game sweep in New York since June of 1986. New York held a two-run lead, but then scored eight runs in the 8th to open the ten-run lead.

Sabathia, now 17-7, 3.42, gave up just five hits and three runs over seven innings. He improved to 9-1, 2.55 in 14 career starts vs. the Orioles. Hideki Matsui's two-run single off Jeremy Guthrie gave New York a 5-3 lead in the sixth. Matsui added a three-run homer off Chris Waters in the 8th for an 8-3 lead and a 5-RBI day. Melky Cabrera added 4 RBI for the Yankees, who improved to 41-15 since the All-Star break and 50-22 in home games. Guthrie took the loss and falls to 10-14, 5.06. In 5 2/3, he gave up 12 hits and five runs. The O's, who finished 2-3 on this road trip, got RBI from Justin Turner, Chad Moeller and Jeff Fiorentino. Balt.......3-6-0 NYY....13-20-0
