Luke Scott's first game on his injury rehab assignment at Double-A Bowie is going quite well tonight.
Scott walked twice in his first three plate appearances, and he hit a long home run to right field off Richmond's Alex Hinshaw in the bottom of the eighth inning to increase Bowie's lead to 5-1.
Scott, who homered with the count full, has scored twice for the Baysox.
The Orioles want Scott to accompany Bowie to Harrisburg tomorrow and play in one more game. He could be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, which would necessitate another roster move by the Orioles.
Scott is trying to avoid surgery to repair a tear in his right labrum. He might need to undergo the procedure after the season.
Joe Mahoney also homered tonight for Bowie. Mike Ballard allowed one run and six hits in eight innings, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Update: The Baysox passed along the following quote from Scott:
"My timing was definitely off. Everything looked 100 mph. Just my balance and feel wasn't great. I just tried to battle and put the ball in play, have good at bats, swing at strikes. The guys on the mound threw pretty well today. There were not many mistakes. They mixed up their pitches well."
