Showalter waiting for updates on Roberts and Hammel

Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts informed manager Buck Showalter at 10:30 a.m. this morning that he was headed to the hospital with his wife for the birth of their first child. Showalter hadn't spoken to him since around 2 p.m. and didn't have any updates for reporters this afternoon. Roberts isn't on paternity leave, and Showalter said "there's always the chance that everything goes real well and she's sleeping and Brian feels comfortable and he comes back here tonight." Roberts is listed among the four reserves for tonight's game. "I'm not going to broadcast certain things, but I think we're in that mode right now," Showalter said. "I'm hoping there are no complications and he feels comfortable coming back. We have things we can do, but you have to do it within a certain number of hours after the baby." The Orioles also are waiting for the results of Jason Hammel's MRI this morning. Team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens was talking to head athletic trainer Richie Bancells and assistant Brian Ebel this afternoon. Hammel went on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, retroactive to July 29, with a right flexor mass strain. Matt Wieters is hitless in his last six games and 22 at-bats, both career highs. Manny Machado still leads the majors with 39 doubles, but he's gone 21 full games without one. Henry Urrutia's .333 average in his first 10 major league games is the sixth-highest in Orioles history for a player with a minimum 30 plate appearances, trailing Curtis Goodwin (.475 in 1995), Chito Martinez (.355 in 1991), Jeffrey Hammonds (.351 in 1993), Sam Bowens (.344 in 1963) and Howie Clark (.341 in 2002).
