I don't have much information to pass along from manager Buck Showalter's pregame session with the media. It's pretty calm around here.
Vladimir Guererro and Cesar Izturis will be in Double-A Bowie's lineup for its 6:05 p.m. game against the Trenton Thunder at Prince George's Stadium.
Both players could be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday, when the Orioles begin a three-game series in Toronto.
As for the corresponding roster moves, the Orioles are leaning toward sending down a pitcher and a position player. They don't need nine relievers, and they're currently going with a four-man rotation because of tomorrow's off-day.
Josh Bell and Blake Davis are the candidates to be sent down among position players. Davis is expendable because Izturis can back up at second base and shortstop, though I think the Orioles should be evaluating their younger players.
Of course, they also can do it once rosters expand on Sept. 1.
Bell is the designated hitter again today, but Guerrero will occupy that role once he's activated.
Showalter mentioned again that both starters for the July 30 doubleheader in New York could come from the minors, but it's also possible that one starter will come from the bullpen. Left-hander Zach Britton is expected to be recalled from Bowie on that date.
Britton is scheduled to start tomorrow night for the Baysox. If he's scratched, that means he's joining the Orioles sooner than next weekend.
For the Angels:
SS Izturis
RF Hunter
DH Abreu
LF Wells
3B Callaspo
2B Kendrick
1B Trumbo
CF Trout
C Wilson
RHP Chatwood
The Tigers maintain interest in Orioles pitcher Jeremy Guthrie, and they have a major league scout here today to monitor the right-hander's start against the Angels.
This isn't a case of a scout simply working his assigned territory. The Tigers and Orioles are a potential match if president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail can pry away a major league-ready arm.
Guthrie gave up a single and walked a batter in the top of the first, but he retired Vernon Wells and Alberto Callaspo to end the inning.
