Solis and Purke return timeline updated to late May

Left-hander Sammy Solis (Tommy John) and left-hander Matt Purke (shoulder) continue their mound progressions in Florida as they work their way back from surgeries. Solis threw a few innings in extended spring training last week and looked good, according to club source. Updating his return, another source reports Solis is still "several weeks" from returning to games, and it appears that will take place in the "second half of May." Meanwhile, Purke is a "tick behind the Solis timeline." The Nationals project Purke's possible return to be closer to the "latter part of May." Solis underwent Tommy John surgery March 6, 2012. He is 8-3 with a 3.13 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 19 minor league starts. Purke was 0-2 with a 5.87 ERA in the three starts for Hagerstown last season. He had shoulder surgery (left shoulder debridement) on August 22, 2012.
