Solis hits 95 mph in season debut for Suns

Nationals prospect left-hander Sammy Solis pulled off a solid debut for 2011 with the Single-A Hagerstown Suns at Kannapolis Intimidators on Monday. Solis went four and 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts, three walks and four hits. He allowed only one hit until the fifth inning, giving up three runs and getting a no decision. Solis said the start went well but he ran out of gas in that fifth inning. He threw 87 pitches and was sitting between 92 and 95 miles per hour on his fastball, so that is a big plus. "I felt great but just got tired at the end," Solis said. "The stamina will come with time." It is a very good sign that Solis can come up and hit 95 miles per hour. Also, the opening four innings where he only gave up one hit proved he could settle in even in his first start. Solis just needs to get stretched out after spending so much time in Viera. Fla., rehabbing a couple of injuries. I would expect his next few starts to be at another level after he has a few weeks with pitching coach Chris Michalak.
