Solis looking to put back-to-back consistent outings together

Left-hander Sammy Solis bounced back from a pair of starts where he allowed a total of eight runs by pitching five innings with just two runs allowed in his last outing for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League. Tonight, the University of San Diego product makes his fifth start as the Scorpions entertain Salt River. Scorpions pitching coach Paul Menhart reports Solis has been hitting between 92 and 96 mph with his fastball and the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder looked back in a groove during his last start versus Peoria. "He threw the ball as good as I have seen him," Menhart said. "Everything gets kind of magnified here in Arizona (when you don't have a quality outing), but (Solis) has a good feel for his curve and he is throwing strikes. His changeup has always been there. "His fastball has good direction to the plate. When he was on, Solis was not missing up in the zone. I believe he is starting to really get it. At 96 mph, he is also throwing really hard." Solis is not on an innings limit per se in Scottsdale, but a league rule mandates starters can only go a maximum of five innings per outing in Arizona because there are so many pitchers on each roster and league officials and major league teams stocking rosters want to make sure each team gets work for all of its prospects. Solis is currently around 111 innings for the season.
