The Nationals jumped out in front against 2018 National League Cy Young award winner Jacob deGrom in the first inning.
Asdrúbal Cabrera doubled with one out. One batter later, Juan Soto drilled a double to deep right-center field to score Cabrera. The Nats led 1-0 after one inning.
Nationals starter Max Scherzer has struck out five over three innings without allowing a hit.
In the bottom of the third, Trea Turner singled and stole second base. It was his 31st stolen base of the season. Cabrera walked, but Anthony Rendon grounded into a 5-4-3 double play and Soto lined out to center field on the first pitch.

Update: The Mets crashed the Scherzer comeback party in the fourth with four runs. Joe Panik blasted a two-run shot and Wilson Ramos had a run-scoring single. Brandon Nimmo added a sacrifice line out to center field to score a run. The Mets strung together five hits in the inning.
Mid-fourth, the Mets lead the Nats 4-1.
Update II: In the sixth, Kurt Suzuki dropped in an RBI single to score Soto to cut into the Mets lead. Scherzer lasted six innings on 90 pitches (61 for strikes), with five hits, four runs, one walk and seven strikeouts.
Mid-seventh, the Mets lead the Nats 4-2.
Update III: In the eighth, Jeff McNeil homered to extend the Mets lead to 5-2. But in the bottom of the eighth, Soto crushed a two-run shot off of deGrom to cut the lead to one.
After eight innings, the Mets lead the Nats 5-4.
Update IV: The Nats cut the lead to one heading to the ninth, then put together one of their worst half innings this season. Matt Adams missed a catch for an error near first base and Turner neglected to go for a double play when he thought there were two outs in the inning. The Mets scored five runs, highlighted by a two-run shot from pete Alonso, a solo homer by Brandon Nimmo and a two-run single from McNeil.
Mid-ninth and the Mets lead 10-4 over the Nats.
Update V: In the most dramatic comeback of the season, the Nats score seven runs in the bottom of the ninth. Kurt Suzuki crushed a three-run shot to win it.
Final score: Nats 11, Mets 10.
