Stanton homer starts off game (Nats win 3-2)

Tanner Roark got through the first two innings unscathed.

But in the third, Dee Gordon singled. Giancarlo Stanton followed with a two-homer on a 1-1 pitch from Roark. His 39th homer of the year went over the left field wall.

The Marlins lead 2-0.

The Nationals earned a base hit off the bat of Matt Wieters in in the third but not much else yet against Dan Straily.

After three innings, the Marlins lead the Nationals 2-0.

Update: The Nats rally in the bottom of the sixth. AdriÃ¡n Sanchez leads off with a double off of Straily. Roark sacrificed bunted back to the pitcher, Sanchez moved to second. Brian Goodwin's RBI single got the Nats on the board. After a Wilmer Difo flyout, Bryce Harper doubled to the right field wall, scoring Goodwin.

Roark finishes six innings, allows two runs on four hits with five walks, two intentional, with four strikeouts. He threw 107 pitches, 68 for strikes.

After six innings, all tied up at 2-2.

Update II: Goodwin crushed a Junichi Tazawa offering over the right field fence to lead off the eighth and the Nats lead 3-2. Goodwin's 13th homer of the season is also his second RBI of the game.

After eight innings, the Nats lead 3-2.

Update III: Sean Doolittle came on in the ninth and retired A.J. Ellis on a pop up to Ryan Zimmerman. But Miguel Rojas dropped a double down the left field line. Pinch-hitter J.T. Realmuto grounded out to second. Gordon then sliced a liner down the left field line that was nabbed by Andrew Stevenson with a spectacular diving grab.

It marks Doolittle's 10th save of the season.

Final score: The Nats 3, the Marlins 2.
