Steve Johnson sidelined with bruised finger (with videos and photos)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Orioles pitcher Steve Johnson didn't throw his bullpen session this morning after jamming his right middle finger yesterday during a fielding drill.

Johnson said the finger is feeling better after two days of icing it, though it's noticeably bruised and swollen. He's headed to a local hospital for X-rays later today.

"It shouldn't be very long," Showalter said. "Just precautionary."

"It feels good," Johnson said. "It felt a lot better than it did yesterday. Just icing it. Getting an X-ray in an hour or so just to make sure everything is good, and if it is, I'll know I won't hurt anything throwing. Hopefully, it's a day thing and back out there.

"Ground ball just got it. Fingers got in the way. It's a stupid injury, but what are you going to do? Maybe it'll give me a breather with my shoulder. It'll give me a couple days. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise. Who knows? But everything else feels good, so that's the good news. Hopefully, this is only a day or two."

Johnson is working his way back from surgery in September to shave down a bone spur behind his right shoulder. He doesn't need any more setbacks.

"It got me and you're never really sure how bad it gets you, but it started swelling up a little bit," he said. "I iced it all day yesterday and I'll ice it all day today and hopefully I'll get some good news and we'll say it's just bruised."
