BOSTON - Orioles left fielder Nate McLouth was stranded in the first inning today after a leadoff single, and Chris Davis was stranded in the second after a leadoff walk.
Manny Machado and Nick Markakis singled with two outs in the third, but Adam Jones took a called third strike.
Davis drew another walk leading off the top of the fourth, but Matt Wieters grounded into a force - Davis appeared to beat the throw - and J.J. Hardy hit into a double play.
The game is scoreless, but not because the Orioles are lacking in opportunities.
Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen retired the Red Sox in order in the bottom of the first. Machado made a ridiculous catch of Shane Victorino's scorching line drive. I'm not sure how he even saw the ball, let alone reacted to it.
Chen issued a two-out walk to Daniel Nava in the second and induced three flies balls to left field in the third. He retired nine of the first 10 batters before Shane Victorino led off the bottom of the fourth with a single into left-center field.
Wieters threw out Victorino trying to steal. The Orioles have nabbed five of six this season, including four by Wieters.
Dustin Pedroia walked with one out, but Mike Napoli grounded into a 4-5-6 double play.
Chen has allowed one hit and walked two over four scoreless innings. He hasn't struck out a batter.
Steve Pearce is 0-for-2 today, and Orioles' designated hitters are 1-for-22 this season. Nolan Reimold has the only hit.
Update: Still scoreless here as we enter the top of the seventh inning.
Chen has allowed two hits, walked two and struck out two over six scoreless innings.
