Stop pitching to Josh Hamilton (That's four home runs tonight!)

The Orioles tried to get back into tonight's game. Too bad they tried to pitch to Josh Hamilton again in the seventh inning. With his team trailing, 5-1, manager Buck Showalter removed Jake Arrieta and brought in left-hander Zach Phillips to pitch to Hamilton with one on and one out. Hamilton promptly launched his third home run of the night, giving him six RBIs and giving the Rangers a 7-1 lead. Left-handed batters were 2-for-20 against Phillips last season, but Hamilton must not have read the stat sheet. Nelson Cruz doubled to drive in another run. Rangers 8, Orioles 1. Hamilton's 14 total bases tie a Rangers record, last done by Jose Canseco. It's the ninth time in franchise history that a player accumulated four extra-base hits in one game. Ian Kinsler did it against the Orioles. In five plate appearances since the ninth inning last night, Hamilton has a double, four home runs and eight RBIs. This is the 16th time in Rangers history that a player hit three homers in the same game, and the first since Andruw Jones on July 8, 2009. Shouldn't Chris Davis be warming up right now? Arrieta threw eight scoreless innings in his last start in New York, but he's charged with six runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 tonight, with one walk and three strikeouts. The three home runs allowed are a career high. The nine hits tie a career high. The Orioles are being outscored, 22-4 in this series, and we still have two more games. Update: Hamilton just hit his fourth home run of the night, this one a two-run shot off Darren O'Day in the eighth inning. It's only the 14th time since 1918 that a player has hit four home runs in the same game. Carlos Delgado most recently did it in 2003. The eight RBIs are a career-high for Hamilton, and the 18 total bases are a club record. The 18 total bases also are an American League record. Shawn Green had 19 for the Dodgers on May 23, 2002 versus Milwaukee. Hamilton has homered in five of his last six at-bats in this series. Rocky Colavito also hit four home runs against the Orioles on June 10, 1959. That's the only other time it's happened against them.
