As shown by yesterday's Cy Young awards, Houston's Dallas Keuchel was the most dominant pitcher in the American League this season. The lefty took home the hardware last night after pitching to a 20-8 record and a 2.48 ERA. A perfect 15-0 at home, his eight losses came on the road, and the first one came at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles on Memorial Day.
However, the All-Star lefty battled. He pitched a complete game, but took the loss as the Orioles chalked up four earned runs against him.
Caleb Joseph struck first with a two-run homer of Keuchel in the second. However, by the fifth, the Astros had taken a 3-2 lead.
Then, in the seventh inning, Steve Pearce dug in with Delmon Young on first base. He sent Keuchel's first offering to center field to give the O's the 4-3 lead. The homer would be all the O's needed for a day game victory and all the reason for Tommy Hunter to deliver a postgame pie to Pearce.
Watch the homer and ensuing pie-filled celebration below, and check back next Thursday for another one of our looks back at a favorite 2015 moment.
