The Orioles will try today to gain a split of their four-game series against the White Sox, go 2-6 on a road trip that began with the makeup in D.C. and head back to Baltimore with the Cardinals coming to town this weekend.

The Orioles raised their average on the trip to .245 after last night's 10-6 victory over the White Sox. Their pitching staff has registered a 9.63 ERA, including 13.33 from the rotation.

Chris Tillman has his own ERA issues. It jumped from 5.59 to 8.01 after his last outing, when he allowed nine runs in 1 1/3 innings in a 16-3 loss at Yankee Stadium. He surrendered three home runs.

Tillman is 4-2 with a 3.05 ERA in seven career starts against the White Sox, and he's registered a 1.409 WHIP in 38 1/3 innings. He's 2-1 with a 2.66 ERA and 1.352 WHIP in four starts in Chicago over 23 2/3 innings.

Melky Cabrera is leading off today and he's 11-for-29 (.379) with three doubles and a home run lifetime against Tillman. José Abreu is 3-for-10 (.300) with a double, triple and home run.

Avisaíl García is 1-for-11 (.091).

White Sox left-hander David Holmberg is 1-0 with a 2.74 ERA in 11 games this season, including three starts. He's allowed seven runs in 23 innings.

Left-handers are batting .143 against Holmberg this season and .197 in his career, which spans 25 games over parts of four seasons. Right-handers are batting .254 this season and .270 in his career.

The Orioles don't have a left-handed hitter in their lineup. Hyun Soo Kim, Seth Smith and David Washington are on the bench.

The White Sox selected Holmberg in the second round of the 2009 draft out of Port Charlotte (Fla.) High School and traded him a year later to the Diamondbacks with Daniel Hudson for Edwin Jackson, recently designated for assignment by the Orioles and now a free agent. He was traded to the Reds in December 2013, signed with the Braves as a free agent in December 2015 and signed with the White Sox in March 2016.

Holmberg's entire body of work against the Orioles consists of one relief inning on Sept. 3, 2014 at Camden Yards, when he allowed one hit, walked a batter and struck out one in a 6-0 loss.

Welington Castillo is 1-for-4 with two RBIs against him. Adam Jones is 1-for-1 and J.J. Hardy is 0-for-1.

Hardy isn't starting today. Rubén Tejada is playing shortstop and trying to make an impression while Ryan Flaherty is on the disabled list and undergoing a throwing program down in Sarasota.
