Top prospect Robles leaves Triple-A game with apparent arm injury

Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs center fielder Victor Robles dove for a fly ball in shallow left-center field Monday night in a game at Rochester and rolled over awkwardly on his left elbow.

According to a video replay from WROC-TV, Robles left the game under his own power, but his left arm hung down and it was not moving as he headed to the clubhouse. See the video below.

The Chiefs did not have an update immediately after the game. A Nationals spokesman said there would be no update on Robles until Tuesday.

The Chiefs defeated the Rochester Red Wings 2-1 at Frontier Field to improve to 2-2.

Robles is rated as the top Nationals prospect and is currently ranked No. 6 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com. Last season, he made the Nationals' postseason roster despite playing in only 13 regular season games.

The five-tool prospect is so valuable to the Nats that they have held on to him despite several trade requests over the past couple of seasons. His importance as a starter for the Nats in the future would be magnified if slugger Bryce Harper moves on in free agency at the end of 2018.

Former general manager Dan O'Dowd likened Robles' play and ability to Giants outfielder Andrew McCutchen.

The Washington Post reported late Monday that X-rays of Robles' elbow came back negative and that the 20-year-old was on his way to D.C. for further evaluation by team medical personnel. A club source told me the Nationals are assessing the situation and that is all they can report at the moment.

In four games so far this season for the Chiefs, Robles is batting .385 with five hits, two walks, two stolen bases and one RBI. In 336 minor league games over his career, he has hit .305 with 79 doubles, 25 triples, 26 homers, 112 stolen bases and 142 RBIs.
