Trembley could have been back with the O's organization

He was once a manager in the Orioles farm system and, as of a few weeks ago, Dave Trembley was almost back in the O's organization. Trembley confirmed today that the Orioles offered him a job managing in their minor leagues for next season. He thought about it, but got an offer from Atlanta and recently accepted a position as the Braves' minor league field coordinater/coordinater of instruction, where he will work with all their minor league managers, players and teams. Trembley said June 3, the day he was dismissed as Orioles manager, d, Andy MacPhail told him he hoped he would remain in the organization and the Orioles stayed true to their word. "He (MacPhail) told me that he'd like me to consider staying in the organization and there would be a place for me, if I chose to do that. I felt very humbled by that," Trembley said by phone this afternoon from his home in Florida. "When the Major League season was over, I spoke to (player development director) John Stockstill twice and toward the end of October, I called Andy and spoke to him. John called me from the Arizona Fall League and told me there was a position available to manage in the Orioles' system if I wanted to do that. "At that particular time, I wasn't pursuing anything with any Major League team. You know, I'm not a big networking guy; I didn't make a lot of calls during the summer. I had some teams call me when I got let go and talk to me about some things "John called me in early November and told me, 'I'm holding a position open for you to manage in our minors.' I just didn't feel it was the right thing for me to do after being in the organization and I just didn't feel it was the right thing for me to be around, as much as I love the Orioles. I just thought it was time for me to move on. That's as honest as I can be." Trembley did not want to say where he would have managed, but sources indicate the O's were looking at him to return to the Bowie Baysox, where he managed in 2003 and 2004. You could tell Trembley gave it some serious thought, however, and was touched that the club felt that way. "I always felt like I was appreciated by Andy, by everybody in the front office, by ownership. I thought they appreciated the way I conducted myself and handled adversity. People saw me as what I am, I'm a team guy. That makes you feel good," Trembley said. Now the former O's skipper looks forward to his new job, working closely with GM Frank Wren and new Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez. Classy as always, Trembley wanted all the fans to know how he still feels about the O's and said there are many people he will miss as he moves into his new position.
