With the season over, it's time to turn your attention to some spooktacular fun for a good cause.
On Saturday, Oct. 31 - yes, Halloween! - Camden Yards will be the site of the sixth annual KidsPeace Trick-or-Trot 5K/1-Mile Walk hosted by Orioles manager Buck Showalter and his wife Angela.
The course begins and ends on the same field where the Orioles play, and runs through the Inner Harbor area. The Showalters will host a pre- and post-race party featuring the Oriole Bird and including a costume contest, face painting, great food and Halloween fun.
The first 750 registered runners and walkers will receive a special race T-shirt (sizes available on a first-come, first-served basis). The top three male and female finishers, the first masters finishers and age group winners will receive gift certificate prizes. If you dress up for All Hallow's Eve, you can score prizes in the costume contest. Registration costs $35 per participant, and runners/walkers must be 5 or older.
Strollers are not permitted on the 5K course, but are permitted for most of the one-mile walk course (but must be left at the stroller drop-off point at Gate D before entering the stadium and finishing on the field). Complimentary parking will be available in Lots B and C just south of the ballpark.
All proceeds from the event will benefit KidsPeace Foster Care and Community Programs of Maryland, including KidsPeace Empowering Youth to Succeed (KEYS), a program that prepares youths for independence through life skills training. For more information about KidsPeace programs, click here.
Over the course of the 2015 season, you've no doubt seen the KidsPeace public service announcements broadcast on MASN during O's games. Buck and Angela Showalter's involvement with the organization has raised awareness of foster care needs in the Baltimore area, and the Trick-or-Trot event is just one more visible way the Showalters and the Orioles have demonstrated their commitment to this worthy cause.
