Turner searching for first Triple-A hit; Harrisburg and Potomac Sunday winners

Shortstop Trea Turner is still looking for his first Triple-A base hit. On Sunday, Turner pinch-hit in the eighth inning and popped out for pitcher Rafael Martin. He is now 0-for-9 with Syracuse, with a run scored and a strikeout.

Turner-Syracuse-Hitting.jpgAfter 68 Double-A games, Turner had accumulated an amazing 25 multi-hit games and a .327 average. In that span, he had a 16-game hitting streak and a 10-game hitting streak while with the San Antonio Missions, a Padres affiliate. He spent 10 games with Double-A Harrisburg before being called up to Syracuse on Friday.

Tuesday will be Turner's 22nd birthday.

Playing shortstop Sunday was Jason Martinson, who is on track for posting career power numbers in a season. Martinson cranked his 10th homer of the season in Syracuse's 5-1 loss to Indianapolis. It is the fifth straight season he has reached double figures in home runs.

Last season, he hit 10 homers in 132 games, and this season, he has done it 72 contests. His career high is 19 homers for low single-A Hagerstown in 2011. In 2012, he hit a combined 22 homers between Hagerstown and high Single-A Potomac.

Double-A Harrisburg has equaled a season-high win streak at five games with a doubleheader sweep of Altoona, 3-2 and 4-3.

In the opener, Shawn Pleffner hit his first homer of the season, Brian Goodwin had a RBI double and Matt Skole had a run-scoring double. Sammy Solis pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn his second save.

In the nightcap, the Senators rallied from a 3-0 deficit. Christopher Bostick had a two-run double and Isaac Ballou contributed the go-ahead RBI single. Bryan Harper and Abel de los Santos tossed three straight scoreless frames in the comeback win.

Stephen Perez had a sac fly RBI and John Wooten added a run-scoring double as high Single-A Potomac dropped Carolina 3-1 in their series opener. Right-hander Wander Suero and left-hander Nick Lee combined to finish the Mudcats with three scoreless innings.

Starter Phillips Valdez went six innings allowing a single run on four hits, no walks and struck out a season-high six batters. He had four of those punchouts in the first three frames.
