The Orioles still intend to play three games against the Rays next week, but they'll be packed into two days.
An adjustment has been made in the schedule due to threatening weather conditions caused by Hurricane Dorian.
The Tampa Bay Times reported that the Orioles and Rays will play a doubleheader on Tuesday and remove Wednesday's game. The series opens Monday afternoon as planned.
An Orioles official has confirmed the news.
Hurricane Dorian has been upgraded to a Category 4 storm but no longer is expected to have a major impact on the Tampa Bay area. However, the Orioles will attempt to leave following the single-admission doubleheader that begins at 3:10 p.m. at Tropicana Field.
The second game starts 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
Keeping Wednesday as an open date also provides an option if the weather turns especially bad the previous day.
The Orioles are making their final visit to St. Petersburg, Fla. and the teams don't want to extend the regular season by a game if there's a postponement and the Rays remain in playoff contention.
The storm has forced the Orioles to play their sixth doubleheader of the season. They'll head to the Tampa Bay area following Sunday's game in Kansas City.
Meanwhile, the Orioles have placed outfielder Dwight Smith Jr. and pitchers Branden Kline and Tanner Scott on the taxi squad in order to recall them Sunday went rosters expand.
Smith was optioned to Norfolk after coming off the injured list. He batted .238/.293/.415 with 15 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs and 48 RBIs in 84 games with the Orioles.
Kline has gone 1-4 with a 7.44 ERA and 1.561 WHIP in 25 games with the Orioles over 32 2/3 innings.
Scott has registered a 5.29 ERA and 2.176 WHIP in 15 games and has walked 16 batters and struck out 23 in 17 innings. He hasn't pitched for the Orioles since July 25.
More moves are coming after Norfolk completes its season on Monday.
