Updates on injured and excused players

Besides an update on right-hander Stephen Strasburg, manager Dusty Baker also had updates on other injured or excused Nationals players.

* Shortstop Trea Turner (right wrist fracture, June 30, 18 games missed):

"Trea is getting an X-ray and follow-up this afternoon," Baker said. "I talked to him. He says he's feeling pretty good, but he's also in the hands of the doctor and the X-ray machine to see how he's coming along."

During batting practice, Turner was fielding grounders with his glove and still had a brace on his right hand.

* Left-hander Enny Romero (back spasms, left Sunday's game in the seventh inning, 29 pitches):

Baker confirmed Romero is available to pitch today. He cautioned that left-hander Matt Grace will likely get a rest day because of his usage over the weekend, pitching four innings over a pair of appearances on July 21 and 23.

* Outfielder Chris Heisey (left groin strain, July 23, one game):

"Well, he's going out to test it this afternoon," Baker said. "What happened is he strained his groin. How bad, we don't know. We couldn't afford to put him out there or play short because I'm already short outfielders."

* Outfielder Michael A. Taylor (right oblique strain, July 7, 12 games):

"Michael is progressing as well," Baker noted. "I think he might be able to swing in a couple of days lightly."

Heisey and Taylor ran laps on the outskirts of the field from home plate to left to right field and then back to home plate.

* Outfielder Ryan Raburn (brereavement list):

When will Raburn return?

"Don't know man," Baker said. "I told him to come back when he takes care of his business at home."

* Outfielder Jayson Werth (left foot contusion, June 4, 43 games):

Is Werth close to baseball activities?

"First, we got to decide how his toe is," Baker said. "We can't plan until we see how that toe is. I planned to bring him back by now, but like I told you before, the two worse injuries I ever had were to my big toe and my thigh. Because they heal very, very slowly. Everything depends on your balance, your weight, throwing, running. They say it's only your big toe, well, that's a pretty important toe. It ain't called 'big' for nuthin'."
