Updates on injuries to prospects Higley, Souza

The low Single-A Hagerstown Suns placed outfielder J.R. Higley on the disabled list Sunday and Andruth Ramirez was activated. Higley fouled a ball of his foot. His injury is being evaluated further by the Nationals. Higley was hitting .273 in nine games, with two doubles, one triple and four RBIs. The Double-A Harrisburg Senators placed outfielder Steven Souza Jr., on the disabled list Sunday. Catcher Jeff Howell was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse. Catcher Kris Watts was activated from the disabled list. Souza has shoulder soreness. He was hitting .370 with two doubles, two homers and four RBIs in his first nine games. The Senators now have Souza and Matt Skole, two of their top home run hitters, on the disabled list with injuries. Skole went down with a wrist injury last week and is continuing to be evaluated. Howell takes the place of catcher Jhonatan Solano at Triple-A Syracuse. Solano who was recalled to the Nationals following the injury of Wilson Ramos. Solano hit .314 with three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, two walks and six runs in 12 games with the Nationals last season.
