Updates on Fedde, Belisle, Bostick and a trip to Cincinnati

One of the top pitching prospects in the Nationals system is on the seven-day disabled list. Right-hander Erick Fedde was diagnosed earlier in the week with mild oblique soreness. Fedde is 3-3 with a 5.00 ERA in nine starts for Single-A Potomac. He has not allowed a run in his last two starts, May 23 and 28, combining for 11 scoreless frames.

* What a doubleheader for David Masters yesterday with Potomac. He finished with six RBIs in the two-game sweep. He had the game-winning hit in the first contest and two homers in the second game as the P-Nats swept the Frederick Keys 6-5 and 9-2.

The P-Nats were able to jump on Orioles starter Yovani Gallardo, who was with Frederick on a rehab assignment, scoring twice in the first frame in the first game. Andrew Stevenson led off the game with a single and finished with three hits in the opener. Jose Marmolejos and Alec Keller had RBI singles. Keller had four hits on the evening.

Masters added a run-scoring single in the third to make it 3-0. Marmolejos had a RBI double and Keller a RBI single later to make it 5-2 .

* Nationals right-hander Matt Belisle, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right calf, appeared in four games on his rehab assignment with Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg. He last pitched May 31 for Harrisburg, going two innings and allowing two hits and one run against New Hampshire. Manager Dusty Baker said he had wanted Belisle to pitch in back-to-back games before his return. It's June 3, and he hasn't done so yet.

* Harrisburg second baseman Chris Bostick is slashing .299/.357/.422 with seven doubles, five triples, two homers, five stolen bases and 19 RBIs. He has multi-hit games in four of his last six games and is raking .333 his last 10 contests. The 23-year-old was a 44th-round selection by Oakland in 2011. You pull for him just for that alone.

* Heading to Cincinnati right now for this weekend's Nationals-Reds series. The Reds are 19-35 and have the worst run differential in the major leagues at minus-98. They have won two in a row against the Rockies, but are just 12-15 at home. Only the Braves (.302) and Twins (.302) have worse records than the Reds. Last season, the Reds won only 64 games, but were 5-1 against the Nationals, holding the Nats to 16 runs in six games. They swept the Nats at Great American Ball Park in last May in three games.
