Updates on Gausman, Wieters, Cabrera and more

NEW YORK - Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman will visit with team orthopedist Dr. Michael Jacobs on Monday and undergo an MRI on his right shoulder the following day.

Manager Buck Showalter said the condition of Gausman's shoulder has improved. He went on the disabled list retroactive to Thursday with tendinitis.

"Once we get through the back-to-back, he might head out somewhere, but that's still a ways away," Showalter said.

Infielder Everth Cabrera could begin his injury rehab assignment Thursday at Double-A Bowie. Cabrera is on the disabled list with a bruised left foot.

Second baseman Jonathan Schoop could begin baseball actitivies next week. He's on the DL with a sprained right knee.

Bud Norris no longer is ill and can make today's start. The Orioles sent him back to the team hotel yesterday.

"We checked with him last night," Showalter said. "In fact, he went out to dinner. He felt fine after he got back and he felt fine this morning. I don't know if the Yankees will make him feel fine, but he's OK.

"You worry, especially with what's been going around. We got him out of here pretty quickly. A lot of fluids and making sure."

Steve Pearce came down with a similar illness last Sunday and Ben Werthan, coordinator of advance scouting who doubles as replay coordinator, also was sick last week.

Norris left Yankee Stadium in the second inning. Showalter began considering alternatives for today, knowing he couldn't bump up Ubaldo Jimenez on short rest.

"That's why we had to do some things out of the 'pen yesterday that we normally wouldn't have done, so we could have some length today," Showalter said. "Mac (T.J. McFarland) is ready. He wanted to pitch yesterday."
