Updating Flaherty and hearing from Showalter (Navarro summoned)

Orioles second baseman Ryan Flaherty will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to check whether he's reinjured his right groin muscle and, if so, ascertain the severity of it.

Flaherty came off the disabled list on Friday, appeared to tweak the groin on Saturday and left tonight's game in the bottom of the third inning after chasing Ryan Goins' grounder up the middle that scooted into center field.

"We'll see where we are," said manager Buck Showalter, who came onto the field with head athletic trainer Richie Bancells. "With our roster the way it is with so many outfielders, he's got to be able to play tomorrow to keep him active.

Flaherty-Leaves-Injured.jpg"We're probably going to take some pictures of it and see if there's something else going on there. I don't know what else he's doing. He was probably ready to play eight or 10 days after and we held off, and then he played three games and felt 100 percent. And then he's had some challenges with it. What's tough is he's never had any leg problems, so it's so hard to get feedback that's accurate.

"We'll look at it. You know Ryan. That's not like him. He probably would have gotten that ball normally."

Showalter assumes that the ground ball caused the discomfort that forced Flaherty out of the game.

"I think that was it," Showalter said. "He hasn't let me know anything else. He wanted to stay in there, but we could tell he wasn't able to move too well."

Steve Pearce moved from left field to second base and the next batter, Devon Travis, hit a grounder to him that resulted in a 4-6-3 double play.

"Of course, Stevie walks in there from left field and the first ball's hit right to him," Showalter said. "That's kind of why we all like Steve so much. We kind of invented a second baseman, but you can only do that with somebody like Steve, thank goodness."

Here's more from Showalter following the Orioles' 5-2 victory over the Blue Jays:

On Ubaldo Jimenez: "He was good. He was really good. I thought the two delays hurt him some. And that check swing that could have gone either way. Nice way to put it. Wouldn't you like to see them put a clock out there once they put the headsets on. After two minutes, maybe it is inconclusive. I don't know. What do you all think? They're trying to get it right. Maybe they were waiting for an angle to come up or something."

On Jimenez walking six and striking out 23 in three starts against Toronto: "That will play against any team. He had a lot of counts in his favor, a lot of strike ones. Very aggressive. He threw a lot of fastballs that started as balls and came to strikes, and then some strikes that went to balls. When he's doing, he's got a chance to have a pretty good outing. Mixed in the split and the breaking ball and he was able to get ahead of some guys early with the breaking ball that were in swing mode."

On Delmon Young running down Goins' liner into right-center field to end the seventh: "Oh, that's the play of the game."

On the Orioles striking out nine times tonight after fanning 18 times yesterday: "I know our guys were frustrated by the strikeouts and we talked about it a little today and I think that was something that we haven't been getting and we need to do better. And tonight we had a lot of good at-bats in that situation."

On the white home jersey: "I liked it. Really like the part that says 'Baltimore.' Good looking. I wasn't sure if they made one for me. A guy my age, you have to make sure things fit. How did I look?"

On whether that's why he didn't wear a black pullover: "Yes. I'm very proud of Baltimore. I thought it was ... Everybody wore it. And it fit."

On the atmosphere in the ballpark: "Great. It was great. It was a great tenor. Remember when (Edwin) Encarnacion threw the bat down the left field line, and our fans handed the bat back to him. That touched my heart. I don't know why. That doesn't happen many places."

Update: Rey Navarro has been summoned from Triple-A Norfolk, so the Orioles are prepared to make a roster move involving Flaherty.
