Updating the trade, plus notes on Wilkins and FanFest

The Orioles will receive left-hander C.J. Riefenhauser from the Mariners to complete the trade involving Mark Trumbo and Steve Clevenger, with a source confirming reports.

The deal still isn't official, but the day is young.

Riefenhauser, 25, is 1-0 with a 6.30 ERA in 24 games with the Rays over parts of two seasons. He appeared in 17 games this season and allowed 10 runs (nine earned) and 15 hits in 14 2/3 innings. He walked seven batters and struck out seven.

I heard last night that the Orioles were choosing between two players.

Riefenhauser-Throws-Rays-Sidebar.jpgThe Rays traded Riefenhauser, Nate Kerns and Boog Powell (the other one) to the Mariners on Nov. 5 for Danny Farquhar, Brad Miller and Logan Morrison. Riefenhauser is 30-23 with a 2.77 ERA in six minor league seasons.

Riefenhauser went 4-2 with a 2.86 ERA in 29 relief appearances this year at Triple-A Durham. He has an option, which brings added appeal to the Orioles.

The Rays selected Riefenhauser in the 20th round of the 2010 draft out of Chipola College in Marianna, Fla., where Orioles manager Buck Showalter also played. He's been a midseason All-Star in the Midwest, Florida State and Southern leagues.

The Orioles will need to clear a spot for Riefenhauser on the 40-man roster. It could be done by non-tendering an arbitration-eligible player.

Also, the Mariners claimed infielder Andy Wilkins, who was designated for assignment by the Orioles after they traded for outfielder L.J. Hoes.

I guess there are no hard feelings over the Erik Bedard trade. These teams are now inseparable.
