Urías goes on injured list in flurry of Orioles' roster moves (updated with O's lineup)

DENVER – Zach Eflin is reinstated from the injured list and starting this afternoon against the Rockies. Coby Mayo is recalled from Triple-A Norfolk as the 14th position player on an expanded roster.

And that’s just the beginning.

Infielder Ramón Urías is on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right ankle. He’s on crutches again today after rolling the ankle last night on a tag play at third base.

The Orioles selected catcher David Bañuelos’ contract from Norfolk. He was on the taxi squad and likely will return to it by Monday afternoon.

Outfielder Forrest Wall was designated for assignment to make room for Bañuelos. He was 4-for-11 with a home run for Norfolk after the Orioles claimed him on waivers last week from the Marlins.

Eflin made four starts with the Orioles, all of them quality, before being shut down with right shoulder inflammation. He’s 2-3 with a 5.57 ERA and 1.546 WHIP in six career starts against the Rockies and 1-2 with a 4.87 ERA and 1.721 WHIP in four starts at Coors Field.

Charlie Blackmon is 7-for-15 with three home runs lifetime against Eflin. Ryan McMahon is 3-for-7 with a double and home run. Jacob Stallings is 3-for-8 with a double.

Righthanded batters are hitting .288 against Eflin’s cutter this season compared to .173 for lefties.

The Orioles haven’t posted their lineup. Mayo is expected to replace Urías at third base. Emmanuel Rivera could get another start at first.

Having Bañuelos on the roster reduces the risk of putting Adley Rutschman and James McCann in the lineup.

Gunnar Henderson is slugging .569 in 97 games atop the order compared to .414 in other spots, but Austin Slater is expected to bat leadoff.

The Orioles are 1 ½ games behind the Yankees after both teams lost yesterday. They went 13-15 in August after a 12-13 July.

Rockies right-hander Cal Quantrill was listed as today’s starter, but a sore triceps muscle forced the club to pivot to left-hander Ty Blach. That’s unfortunate for Anthony Santander, who’s 5-for-12 with two doubles and a triple against Quantrill.

Blach has a 6.36 ERA and 1.696 WHIP in 18 games (10 starts) this season. He’s allowed 92 hits in 63 2/3 innings. His last start was July 23 against the Red Sox, when he allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings. His last appearance with the team was three days later in relief.

Blach made five starts with the Orioles in 2019. He started against them on Aug. 27, 2023 at Camden Yards and surrendered only one run with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

Here are the starters for the three-game series against the White Sox at Camden Yards (with Monday’s opener moved from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.):

Monday: RHP Corbin Burnes vs. RHP Chris Flexen
Tuesday: LHP Cade Povich vs. RHP Nick Nastrini
Wednesday: RHP Albert Suárez vs RHP Jonathan Cannon

Here's the Orioles' lineup, which doesn't include Rutschman:

Austin Slater LF
Anthony Santander RF
Gunnar Henderson SS
Eloy Jiménez DH
Emmanuel Rivera 1B
Coby Mayo 3B
Cedric Mullins CF
James McCann C
Jackson Holliday 2B

Zach Eflin RHP
