Urías returns to active roster (plus other notes)

The Orioles have reinstated infielder Ramón Urías from the 10-day injured list following his two rehab games at High-A Aberdeen.

Urías hasn’t played for the Orioles since straining his left hamstring on May 8.

In a corresponding move, rookie infielder Joey Ortiz was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Ortiz was 5-for-11 in his last five games.

Back from a 5-1 road trip that moved them 16 games above .500, the Orioles begin another homestand with a weekend series against the first-place Rangers, whose 31-18 record is third-best in baseball.

Never seems to get any easier.

Cedric Mullins didn’t play last night in New York due to personal reasons, according to manager Brandon Hyde. We’ll find out later today whether he’s back with the club and in the lineup.

We also should find out about reliever Dillon Tate’s status. His 30-day rehab assignment ended on Wednesday.

Grayson Rodriguez faced the Rangers in his major league debut April 5 and allowed two runs in five innings. He hasn’t gone more than 5 2/3 in his nine starts.

Rodriguez pitched in Toronto Saturday and allowed two runs with six strikeouts in five frames.

Reliever Mychal Givens hasn’t allowed an earned run in 15 career appearances against the Rangers totaling 14 2/3 innings, the third-longest active streak in the majors, per STATS.

The Orioles won two of three games in Texas in April. They swept the Rangers last July at Camden Yards, winning all three games by one run. They hadn’t swept a three-game home series with each margin only one run since 2010 against the Nationals, also according to STATS.

The Orioles have a plus-25 run differential in innings seven through nine, second-best in the majors behind the Dodgers’ plus-26. The Rangers lead the majors with a plus-72 run differential in innings four through six.

Another STATS nugget: The Orioles have drawn at least three walks and struck out fewer than 10 times in seven consecutive games, tied with the Astros for the longest streak this season.

This is the longest streak by the Orioles in a season since Sept. 9-16, 2009.

Rangers right-hander Jon Gray, the third overall pick by the Rockies in the 2013 draft, is 4-1 with a 3.02 ERA and 1.164 WHIP in nine starts.

Gray faced the Orioles on April 3 and held them to two runs with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Gunnar Henderson and Jorge Mateo hit solo home runs.

Gray is on a roll. He’s allowed only two runs and struck out 19 batters in his last three starts, totaling 20 innings. He’s surrendered two runs or fewer in six of his starts.

The Rangers have scored 310 runs to tie the Rays for most in the majors. Their .270 average ranks first and their .790 OPS is third.
