Vent fest: Three-game losing streak doesn't sit well with some fans

A three-game losing streak against two different New York teams. The O's have scored six runs total in those games. Another mental mistake when Jimmy Paredes was picked off first base.

Just when it looked like the Orioles' season was trending up, they took another downturn. Reading some comments here and on Twitter, the fans generally didn't deal well with a one-run loss to the Yankees.

The Orioles had a five-game losing streak earlier and have dropped three in a row now. Tonight provides another chance for a more complete effort, one that leads to a win.

Since most series are of the three-game variety, it is much easier to win a series when you take the first game. After going 32-21 (.604) in series-opening games last year on their way to 96 wins, the Orioles are just 2-8 (.200) in series-opening games now. That stat simply must start to improve.

The 2015 Orioles went 32-23 in one-run games (.582), and they are 3-5 right now (.375) in one-run games.

More notes on the O's and Yankees:

davis-black-deep-thought-helmet-off-sidebar.jpg* The Orioles hit two solo homers last night. Their last six homers have been solo shots since Chris Davis connected for a three-run homer in the first inning against the White Sox and Jeff Samardzija on April 29 in the zero-attendance game.

* Davis struck out four times last night, his third four-strikeout game of the season. Davis has struck out seven times in eight at-bats the past two games. He is batting .306 over his past 10 games, with four homers and 11 RBIs.

* Caleb Joseph went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an RBI double last night. He has four multi-hit games in four contests against New York this year. On the season, he is batting .600 (9-for-15) with a double, a triple, a homer, four RBIs and an OPS of 1.600 versus the Yankees.

* Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller pitched the eighth and ninth innings for New York last night without allowing a hit or run. They have combined to pitch 31 innings this year without allowing an earned run and with 52 strikeouts. Opponent batters are hitting .105 (11-for-105) against the duo this year.

* Over the last six games, the O's are batting just .215 with 14 runs on 42 hits. Before this stretch, they scored 26 runs in the previous two games and 59 over the last nine.

* With two homers last night, the O's have hit 19 homers in 11 games at Yankee Stadium since the start of the 2014 season.

In the minors: Single-A Delmarva improved to 16-10 last night with a 4-0 win over Asheville at Perdue Stadium. Three Shorebirds teamed on a two-hitter.

Starter Bennett Parry went six innings with six strikeouts, improving to 2-1 with a 2.36 ERA. Derrick Bleeker pitched two innings and Donnie Hart pitched the ninth. Hart has not allowed a run in 10 games this year.

Delmarva's Jared Breen had three hits and three RBIs and is batting .320. Elier Leyva had two doubles and has six doubles his last four games. Jomar Reyes went 3-for-4 and is batting .283.

Some fans have asked about the lack of postgame video interviews in our media lounge in recent days. There have been some technical issues, but you can go here to see video interviews from last night and some others.
