Victor Robles moves to No. 9 in latest Baseball America top 100 list

Baseball America has come out with their latest update to its top 100 prospects list and the Nationals are well-represented again, despite trading away a couple of top pitching prospects last December.

The Nationals have four prospects in the top 100: No. 9 Victor Robles, No. 48 Erick Fedde, No. 59 Juan Soto and No. 98 Carter Kieboom.

Baseball America said there hasn't been much movement in the list because the season is only a month old. It expects more changes in the list when the baseball season reaches the All-Star break and we have had a chance to see these players perform or move up after half a season has been completed.

Former Nationals pitching prospects Reynaldo López (No. 23) and Lucas Giolito (No. 40) are in the top 50 now as members of the White Sox. They were traded to Chicago along with pitcher Dane Dunning for center fielder Adam Eaton during the Winter Meetings in late 2016.

It is interesting to see the movement from the early 2016 list to now 15 months later. In the February 2016 list, Giolito was No. 5, Trea Turner was No. 9, Robles was No. 33, Fedde was No. 82 and López was No. 92.

Robles has jumped 24 spots, Fedde 34 spots and Lopez 59 spots. Giolito has fallen 35 spots from No. 5 to No. 40.

Soto and Kieboom make their first moves into the top 100.

Last year, the Nationals had five players in the top 100. This year they have four, but if you include Giolito and López, that's six prospects in the last 12 months that have been under their control - a pretty good sign of how shrewd the scouting and player development has been within the Nationals organization.

Within the National League East, the Braves lead the way with eight prospects on the current list, followed by the Phillies (five), Mets (three) and Marlins (one).

Last night, Double-A Harrisburg dropped Trenton on the road 6-2. Fedde went seven strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts to improve to 2-3. His ERA dropped to 3.16. He threw 99 pitches, 62 for strikes. Ryan Brinley notched his sixth save of the season with two scoreless innings. Fedde has put together back-to-back quality starts in which he allowed two runs or less and finished seven innings.
