Wada and Eyre complete their bullpen sessions

SARASOTA, Fla. - The injury news is good concerning pitchers Tsuyoshi Wada and Willie Eyre. Wade (elbow) and Eyre (groin) looked good during their bullpen sessions this morning. "Obviously, Willie Eyre is healthy, and Wada was outstanding," said pitching coach Rick Adair. "The ball's coming out of his hand much better. I think we're always concerned to a certain degree until you know and they get in game speed, but it was good today. Encouraging." Wada mixed in his changeup and slider among his 25 pitches today, another sign that the discomfort in his left elbow has subsided. "His slider was real good today," Adair said. Wada will throw another bullpen session Thursday or Friday. "It will at least be by Friday, for sure," Adair said. "It's good to see the recovery from last time to this time, where there's no issues." Wada also sounded encouraged. Speaking through his translator, he said, "Compared to the bullpen that I threw when I was feeling the discomfort, I felt much better today, and I'm just thinking about how I'm going to get better and throw the way I like to throw." Adair also noted that Brian Matusz threw his best side session of the spring. He also praised Jake Arrieta and Alfredo Simon. "Billy Castro did a real good job with (Simon) today," Adair said. Meanwhile, catcher Michael Ohlman continued to receive treatment on his right shoulder today following an accident yesterday. Ohlman's truck flipped over three times and landed on its roof after a driver cut him off, but he escaped serious injury.
