Waiver claim (updated twice)

The Orioles have claimed right-hander Armando Gabino off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and added him to the 40-man roster. Gabino, 26, went 6-4 with three saves and a 2.94 ERA in 38 games (seven starts) with Triple-A Rochester. He also appeared in two games with the Twins. And I'll admit that I can't picture the guy. Name sounds familiar, but...nothing. I'll do some research. Update: Gabino went 0-0 with a 17.18 ERA in his two appearances with the Twins. He made his major league debut against the Orioles on Aug. 25 and allowed four runs and five hits in 2 2/3 innings. I exchanged e-mails with a friend in Minnesota who's familiar with Gabino and he says the Twins hoped that the right-hander would clear waivers. He also said manager Ron Gardenhire was floored to see Gabino pitching exclusively from the stretch in that start against the Orioles. It's all coming back to me now. Gabino is 22-19 with a 3.41 ERA in 192 career minor league games. Click here to read more about Gabino, courtesy of "The tenth inning stretch." The Orioles currently have 34 players on their 40-man roster.
