Werth on-base streak reaches record 44 (Rockies win 6-2)

DENVER - The Nationals had a single and a double in their first two innings against Rockies right-handed starter Chad Bettis but were unable to score any runs.

That changed in the third. With one out, Jayson Werth singled to reach base for the 44th game in a row, a new Nationals record. Daniel Murphy followed with a single. Werth went to third on a passed ball.

Werth's single in the third extended his on-base streak to a Nationals record 44 games. He is tied with Tim Raines for second all-time in franchise history. Rusty Staub holds the franchise record of 46.

Update: DJ LeMahieu crushed a two-run shot in the third to tie the game at 2-2. Gio Gonzalez got out of the inning. A rain delay started at 7:47 p.m. MT. The Nationals and the Rockies are tied at 2-2 after three innings.

Update II: The game resumed at 11:52 p.m. ET after a 2-hour and 5-minute rain delay. Left-hander Chris Rusin is facing right-hander Yusmeiro Petit. Gonzalez finished three innings, allowing two runs on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Gonzalez tossed 60 pitches, 36 for strikes.

Update III: LeMahieu is 7-for-7 in the series after a triple in the fifth versus Petit. He is a double short of a cycle tonight. A Nolan Arenado groundout on a great play by Anthony Rendon scored LeMahieu and the Rockies lead 3-2.

Update IV: Arenado added a sacrifice fly to score Gerardo Parra from third base in the seventh and the Rockies led 4-2. Pinch-hitter David Dahl laced a two-run double and the Rockies led 6-2.

Update V: The Nationals were held to no runs on four hits in the final six innings of the game following the rain delay. The Rockies defeat the Nationals 6-2.

With bullpen worn out, manager Dusty Baker will most assuredly hope that Stephen Strasburg can pitch most of Wednesday's matinee series finale. He just won't put the pressure on him beforehand to do so.
