What's out there today

Nothing from the Orioles so far today. No major league or minor league signings. No new hires in the farm system. Don't despair. I've made plans on Saturday to meet up with my parents and great niece at my sister's house. The last time I paid them a visit, the Orioles traded Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop to the Cubs for Scott Feldman and Steve Clevenger. I found out approximately 25 seconds after walking through the door. So, you know, it's probably going to happen again. Not the same guys, but some sort of breaking news. Just be patient. Meanwhile, FOX Sports is reporting that the Orioles have interest in free-agent Jhonny Peralta, 31, as a left fielder. Peralta, who also is on the Yankees' radar, served a 50-game suspension this season for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal. He batted .303/.358/.457 with 30 doubles, 11 homers and 55 RBIs in 107 games, and is a career .268/.330/.425 hitter in 11 major league seasons. Peralta has played 1,152 games at shortstop, 213 at third base and three in left field. Yes, only three, and they came in the last three games of the regular season after his suspension. So ... your thoughts? Also, ESPN's Jim Bowden came up with five trade proposals involving catcher Matt Wieters. It's important to note that he didn't appear to craft the list based on information obtained through sources. He's floating ideas, which read as follows: 1. Wieters to the Reds for second baseman Brandon Phillips and catcher Devin Mesoraco. Bowden adds: "They also might target starting pitcher Homer Bailey. Bailey could be available because he's a free agent after 2014. Or Baltimore might decide to go younger and cheaper and acquire a top starting pitching prospect such as Robert Stephenson or Tony Cingrani." 2. Wieters to the Braves for outfielders Jason Heyward or Justin Upton. "They also might see whether they could get any of the Braves' best young starting pitchers, such as Julio Teheran, Kris Medlen or Lucas Sims." 3. Wieters to the Cubs for pitcher Jeff Samardzija. "The Orioles could also use a power-hitting outfield prospect such as Jorge Soler or high-level pitching prospect such as C.J. Edwards." 4. Wieters to the Rockies for pitchers Jorge De La Rosa or Jhoulys Chacin. 5. Wieters and Kevin Gausman or Dylan Bundy to the White Sox for pitcher Chris Sale. So ... your thoughts?
