Wieters starting at first, B. Davis at third, Pie in left

Call off the search. Felix Pie is in today's lineup. Pie is starting in left field, his first appearance since Aug. 13. Matt Wieters is making his first career start at first base. Mark Reynolds twisted his ankle last night in a collision in the 12th inning. I'm not sure whether Wieters is allowed to wear his mask and chest protector. Also, Blake Davis is starting at third base. Josh Bell takes a seat on the bench. Robert Andino is batting sixth. I wouldn't have predicted it back in spring training. For the Orioles: J.J. Hardy SS Nick Markakis RF Adam Jones CF Vladimir Guerrero DH Matt Wieters 1B Robert Andino 2B Felix Pie LF Craig Tatum C Blake Davis 3B Brian Matusz LHP Jones is batting .436 (17-for-39) with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs in his last 10 games dating to Aug. 10, the fourth-highest average in the American League over that span. He has 12 multi-hit games in his last 27 and has batted .352 (38-for-108) with six doubles and six homers. Jones has 21 RBIs in those 27 games and has hit in 23 of them. Jones (.467, 14-for-30) and Guerrero (.343, 12-for-35) have hit safely in eight straight games. Andino (.360, 9-for-25) and Markakis (.444, 12-for-27) have a hit in six straight games. The Orioles have hit .301 (56-for-186) with a .370 (17-for-46) average with runners in scoring position in five games on this road trip. The Orioles are a season-worst 29 games under .500 at 47-76. They've strung together 15 straight winless series and still haven't won a road series since May 13-15 at Tropicana Field. They've also lost seven straight one-run games. Angels right-hander Jerome Williams is making his first start since May 15, 2007 with the Giants. Over the last four years, he pitched in two independent leagues, Puerto Rico and Taiwan. He was 7-2 with a 3.91 ERA in 11 games at Triple-A Salt Lake this season before the Angels brought him back to the majors. Hardy is the only active Oriole who's faced Williams. He's 1-for-6 with two walks.
