Wieters unavailable tonight

Catcher Matt Wieters fouled a ball off his right knee last night and isn't in tonight's lineup. He also isn't available to pinch hit, according to manager Dave Trembley. I was surprised that he came off the 40-man roster today, though he hit .167 in 12 games with the Orioles last season and went 0-for-9 in a brief call-up this year. Alberto Castillo must be viewed as left-handed relief depth in the organization. That's the only reason I can see for keeping him on the 40-man. Would anyone claim him off waivers? Maybe the chances increase when you're left-handed, no matter your numbers. The weekend series with the Nationals gives certain members of the media another opportunity to debate whether a beltway rivalry (I prefer "parkway") actually exists. No. That's the short answer. Here's the long one: No, it doesn't. The Nationals' surprising start and all the speculation over Trembley's job status make this series more interesting than the others, but I don't believe that players on both sides are more pumped up because of their opponent.
