Wolf placed on 60-day DL

The Orioles just announced that they placed pitcher Randy Wolf on the 60-day disabled list with a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. They purchased the contract of veteran infielder/outfielder Bill Hall. Wolf had an MRI on his left elbow yesterday and consulted last night with renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lewis Yocum, who contact team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens this afternoon. Yocum performed ligament-reconstructive surgery on Wolf's elbow five years ago, and the veteran pitcher is considering whether to undergo the same procedure. Wolf appeared in five games with the Orioles, including two starts, and went 2-0 with a 5.28 ERA in 15 1/3 innings. He felt a pain in his elbow while throwing a curveball in the fifth inning of Saturday's start at Fenway Park. Wolf was signed to provide an extra left-hander in the bullpen, along with rotation depth, which is needed with Jason Hammel nursing a sore right knee and manager Buck Showalter carefully monitoring the innings of rookies Miguel Gonzalez and Wei-Yin Chen. Hall batted .222/.500/.556 with a home run in seven games over two stints with the Orioles earlier this season. He hit .246/.300/.430 with 18 doubles, 15 homers and 45 RBIs in 90 games with Triple-A Norfolk. Hall was working out at first base, among other positions, in the instructional league, because Mark Reynolds is playing with some discomfort in his left biceps.
