Zach Britton on his left knee and other clubhouse quotes

After playing over four hours, blowing leads of five runs and two runs, but winning on a walk-off extra innings homer, the Orioles emerged with a victory today but also some concern over their closer.

And not necessarily because left-hander Zach Britton finally blew a save for the first time since Sept. 20, 2015. But because after the game it was revealed that a left knee injury has been bothering Britton recently. He will have an MRI on the knee tomorrow.

"Gosh, I've probably had it since 2014," Britton explained. "I got my cleats stuck one time in Toronto in their turf. And it is something that was kind of bothering me. I think I've pitched through it the last three or four years. He kind of wants to me to get it checked out. The doctor, Dr. (Michael) Jacobs. I was kind of pushing it off but they said, 'Let's just look at it.' It is not something that is going to prevent me from going to Boston with the team.

"He was just wants to see where it's at. If there is anything that needs to get cleaned up maybe. Use this time to do that. I don't think it's anything serious, otherwise I would not be able to pitch on it. But I'll do that tomorrow and we'll find out."

Britton's American League record 60 straight converted saves ended in the ninth inning today as he allowed two runs and Oakland, down 7-5, tied the Orioles 7-7. Britton gave up three hits and two runs over 1/3 of an inning, throwing 20 pitches, 11 for strikes. He has been on the disabled list twice this year already with a strained left forearm.

"You know, it started creeping back up maybe a couple of weeks ago," he said. "I'm not really sure. Since it is the back knee it could impact command. You know, I'm over the arm injury and we don't want that to get effected again.

"So they said, kind of where we are in the season, let's get it looked at. If there is something that needs to happen, we'll just get it over with going into next year. I'm not sure if that is even the case. I think it's more precautionary more than anything. I would assume I wouldn't be able to get into my delivery and make pitches if it was something serious."

In the aftermath of the Orioles 8-7, 12-inning win over Oakland, Britton was not yet ready to fully contemplate the end of his amazing saves streak. It ranks second-best in MLB history behind Eric Gagne's run of 84 straight saves that ended in 2004.

"I don't know, maybe I'll think about it tomorrow, but I was pretty disappointed," he said. "Wasn't very good at all today. We won because of (Miguel) Castro. That was pretty impressive. You are looking at a future starter probably with that arsenal. It ended well, but I wish I did my job today."

Dylan Bundy today recorded his 17th quality start in a no-decision, allowing three runs over six innings. He is 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA in his past four starts.

Manny Machado's leadoff homer in the 12th ended the game. Machado began this homestand hitting a walk-off grand slam Friday and ended it hitting a walk-off home run today. It was his fifth career walk-off hit and four have come on homers. The O's improved to 62-65 for the year, 3-3 on this homestand and to 10-2 in extra innings with their ninth walk-off victory of the season. Castro got the win pitching 3 2/3 scoreless on 50 pitches.

Machado on beginning and ending this homestand hitting walk-off homers: "It's good to get that win. It was tough today. They came back, they gave us a hell of a game. Every time we come back like that and win a ballgame it's going to help us coming into the next series."

Machado on Castro coming up big today and this year: "Huge. He comes in during tough situations and gets the job done every time. Buck puts him in there in certain situations. He keeps the hold and gives us the opportunity to go out there and give him the 'W.' Those are the little things that we're going to need to win the next games, to get where we need to be."

Bundy on his outing: "Yeah, I felt great. Stuff was coming out good and sharp, so it was good. You know, I had a good game plan with (Welington) Castillo back there and we executed it for the most part. Got hit around there in the seventh and, you know (Mychal) Givens came in and did a great job of limiting the damage."

Bundy on adapting to extra-rest starts: "I don't know if you're ever going to learn how to exactly do it or what not, but I mean you're gonna have a routine in between your starts and you're gonna get your work in that you need to get done, and prepare yourself and your body for your next start."

Trey Mancini on the win: "Probably not exactly how we drew it up but we kept competing and kept fighting and pulled out a win against a good team over there. Those guys can hit. I'm impressed with their approaches and they've got a young team."

Mancini looked to attack the first pitch when he hit a three-run homer: "I was there. With runners on the corners, I went up pretty aggressive. A couple of times recently I think I was a little timid in those situations, maybe thinking too much. Just up there ready to hit the first pitch he threw me and luckily got a hold of it."
