A few notes on Tuesday's win and more with the All-Stars

LOS ANGELES - Now that the Orioles have a win, how about two in a row? Now that they saw their starting pitcher record a quality start, what about doing that again?

The Orioles scored one more run on Monday at Dodger Stadium (5), than they did in last night's 4-1 win. But Chris Tillman pitched his team to a victory, going seven innings, allowing five hits and one run. That was a big outing for an Orioles team that had a rotation ERA of 10.22 during a five-game losing streak.

A few notes on the victory:
* The Orioles won despite going 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

* Manny Machado ended 10 games without a homer with a massive three-run blast to left in the fifth. The exit velocity on the shot was 109 mph and it traveled 453 feet according to Statcast.

* The Orioles are 4-2 versus the National League while the Dodgers are 5-6 against the American League.

* Catcher Matt Wieters went 2-for-4. In his last 18 interleague games since the start of the 2015 season, Wieters is batting .396 with three homers and 10 RBIs.

* Zach Britton picked up his 24th save. Britton has not allowed an earned run over his last 24 games and 24 2/3 innings since May 5.

* Dodgers starting pitchers allowed just one run over 23 innings in the four games before this series. But in this series, Julio Urias and Kenta Maeda have pitched a combined 7 1/3 innings, permitting 13 hits and nine runs.

More from the stars: The Orioles will be represented by five players in next week's All-Star Game. Machado was voted to start at third base for the AL. He is joined on the team by pitchers Brad Brach and Britton, outfielder Mark Trumbo and Wieters.

Machado was asked yesterday about the key to repeating his strong 2015 season this year.

"Just staying with my routine, what I need to do every day," he said. "Obviously pitchers are going to do stuff differently to you. But, at the same time, you've got to make an adjustment as a hitter. It's about sticking to your routine, your plan. I know they are trying to get you out of your comfort zone. Some days you are going to have good and some days bad. It's just part of the process."

Machado turns 24 today and talked about some of the top young talent on the AL roster.

"The next generation is coming up," he said. "There's been a lot of great players in this league that are young. It's just great to see us all doing well and showing the world we can hopefully be there for a long time."

Trumbo talked about the consistency he has shown this season, producing big offense for this team from day one this year.

"I'm proud of it," Trumbo said. "But there is a whole lot of baseball left to go and, more importantly, it is about us righting the ship since this last week and getting back on track. That is always a lot more fun that any personal thing, is the team winning, making the playoffs and doing some of the things we'd like to do."

Brach was asked about making the team as a non-closer reliever and also about going with four of his teammates to San Diego.

"It's awesome," Brach said. "It kind of shows the evolution of the way the game is right now. It's not all about closers. There's a lot of innings pitched in between. I think whoever it was, I think it recognizes that middle innings are huge for games.

"I think it's a good representation of our team (getting five All-Stars). We've got some hitters, some bullpen. It's awesome to get five of us in there. It definitely helps having some teammates going with you, too, especially with this being my first time, so I'm definitely excited. I'm looking forward to it."
