A look at the O's recent success at Fenway Park (Asencio note)

The Orioles have six games remaining this year at Fenway Park in Boston. Maybe that is good news as the Orioles have done well there recently. Dating back to September 2011, the Orioles have won five series in a row at Fenway, going 12-4 in that time. They went 3-1 there in a series in late 2011, 7-2 last season in Boston and 2-1 in April of this year at Fenway. They begin a nine-game road trip there tonight. It is part of a larger O's run of success against Boston. The Orioles went 13-5 last year and are 6-4 in 2013 against the Red Sox. They are 15-7 in the last 22 and 25-12 in the last 37 games between these teams. For a while there, it looked the O's were getting in the Red Sox players' heads a bit with all the winning. But even if that were true, it probably ended with that series in Baltimore about a month ago when Boston lost the series opener but then won the next two games to end a six-series losing streak to the Orioles. Couple that with Boston's big series win on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend and you get the feeling the Orioles need to bring their A game starting tonight. The Red Sox are 40-23 at home and they lead the majors in runs, doubles, extra-base hits and walks. Their starters pitched to an ERA of 1.17 during the six-game trip to San Francisco and Los Angeles. In winning six of 10 against Boston this year, the O's have held the Red Sox to a team average of .208 and 34 runs with Jacoby Ellsbury batting .227 and Dustin Pedroia hitting .147 against the O's staff. The Orioles are coming off a strong game on Sunday against Oakland. They were aggressive on the bases and put up 10 runs against a good pitching staff. It was maybe one of the O's best games of the year. Can they carry that over into this nine-game road trip? How will the O's do beginning tonight in Boston, New York and Cleveland? Rodriguez rolls in Bowie: Double-A Bowie left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez pitched a very strong game last night as the Baysox beat Binghamton 11-0 to remain three games out of an Eastern League playoff spot. Rodriguez tied a career high with eight shutout innings pitched, allowing two hits while not issuing a walk and striking out five in the win. "He was sensational," Bowie manager Gary Kendall said. "I usually stick to words like average or above average but the last three starts he has been lights out. It's encouraging that he is in our dugout because down the road, he is going to be a big plus for this organization." Over his last three starts, Rodriguez has gone 19 innings, giving up just 11 hits and one run with two walks and 20 strikeouts. Not bad for the 20-year-old lefty. IL All-Star: The Triple-A International League today announced its postseason All-Star team and award winners as selected by the circuit's managers, coaches, media, and club representatives, and Norfolk Tides closer Jairo Asencio has been named the Top Relief Pitcher in the IL. Asencio, 30, is an IL Postseason All-Star for the second time in his career. He first accomplished the feat in 2009 with Gwinnett (playing under the name Luis Valdez), the first of two seasons in which he led the league in saves (2011). With 24 saves this season, Asencio is within reach of becoming the first player in IL history to lead the league in saves three separate times. Before Asencio, the last member of the Tides to be named the IL Postseason All-Star relief pitcher was Cory Doyne in 2007. Asencio's 24 saves are are also the third-most in Tides franchise history, trailing Doyne (29 saves in 2007) and Derek Wallace (26 saves in 1996).
