A look back: Five favorites from the 2014 season

This might be a difficult task, but what were your favorite Orioles games from the 2014 regular season?

If we counted the playoffs, of course, one or all three of the wins against Detroit in the American League Division Series would make the list.

Delmon Young's three-run pinch-hit double in the eighth of Game 2 might rank among the greatest moments in club history. Certainly, it produced one of the most amazing comebacks and loudest moments ever at Camden Yards.

But here is my list of the Orioles' top five regular season wins from 2014 - and I left out some real good wins. The team had 96, after all, and it was a fun ride along the way.

No. 5: On July 7 at Nationals Park, the Orioles hit three homers, scoring six runs in the 11th to stun their mid-Atlantic rivals and post an impressive 8-2 victory. The big inning capped a pitchers' duel between Chris Tillman and Stephen Strasburg.

No. 4: On May 26, the Orioles rallied to beat first-place Milwaukee 7-6 in 10 innings on the road. They trailed 6-4 with two outs and none on in the ninth before tying the game. One of the most impressive wins of the season.

No. 3: On July 27, the Orioles won 3-2 in 10 innings at Seattle to complete a 6-4 West Coast road trip out of the All-Star break. The win completed a strong trip against three contending teams and showed that the Orioles might have what it takes to win the American League East. The road trip appeared to provide the chance for the rest of the division to cut into the O's four-game lead at the break. They could not after the strong road trip against top competition.

No. 2: On the night of Aug. 8, the team brought back 23 Orioles Hall of Famers as part of the 60th anniversary celebration. The current O's showed the former O's what they were about, hitting six homers in a 12-2 romp over St. Louis. The postgame ceremony was awesome.

No. 1: On Sept. 16, the Orioles celebrated a division championship with their fans. They beat Toronto 8-2 to claim their ninth AL East championship. Their march toward the playoffs was finally official.

This list leaves out the opening day win over Jon Lester and the Red Sox, Chris Davis' three-homer game at Pittsburgh and Tillman's complete-game shutout at Kansas City. It leaves out several walk-off and late-inning wins. It leaves out an impressive four-homer, 6-1 win at New York a day after the O's blew the lead, giving up four in the ninth. It leaves out a lot. It was that kind of season.
