Orioles bullpen catcher and batting practice pitcher Jett Ruiz, a San Diego native, will throw to Mark Trumbo in tonight's Home Run Derby.
"I'll tape it," said manager Buck Showalter. "I want to see more how Jett does. That's some pressure there. Think it's easy, huh? Just going out there.
"I remember the first big league BP I threw to Rickey Henderson, Dave Winfield. I was the designated left-handed thrower. The first pitch I threw to Rickey was center cut, right across his belt buckle, right in the middle of the plate. I'm thinking to myself, 'Boy, if he ain't swinging at that, it's going to be a long session here.' He didn't and it was a long session.
"Winfield was great. You could throw it in the cage and that was his strike zone, big guys like that."
