At Triple-A, Cutter Dykstra finishes comeback with ninth-inning hit

At Triple-A, Jason Martinson and Cutter Dykstra provided dramatic ninth-inning hits as Syracuse came back to stun Lehigh Valley 5-4 on Monday. Martinson doubled to begin the scoring in the ninth, bringing home Josh Johnson to tie the game at 4-4. Martinson got to third on a fielding error. Dykstra punched a ball through the shortstop hole for the game-winning single.

Syracuse starter Bruce Billings went five innings, surrendering only one earned run on five hits, with one walk and five strikeouts.

A.J. Cole gets his second start of the season tonight versus the IronPigs' Joely Rodriguez.

At Double-A, Harrisburg was edged 2-1 by Bowie. It was the Senators' third one-run loss of the season in a 2-3 start. Starter Matt Swynenberg did very well, going six innings, allowing only two runs on two hits. He pitched shutout out ball for the first four frames, then he gave up a single and a two-run shot in the fifth. Derek Self twirled a pair of scoreless frames and Gilberto Mendez held the Baysox without a run in the ninth.

At high Single-A Potomac, shortstop Wilmer Difo and designated hitter John Wooten hit home runs. Right-hander Jake Johansen tossed four scoreless frames. Left-hander Matthew Spann (0-1) made his season debut, pitching five innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out six and walking one. The P-Nats lost 4-3 to Winston-Salem.

At low Single-A, Hagerstown lost at West Virginia 3-1. But right fielder Jeff Gardner had two hits and an RBI. Leadoff left fielder Wilman Rodriguez also had two hits. Phillips Valdez gave up three runs in four innings for the loss.

Ex-Nats: Texas Rangers starting left-hander Ross Detwiler (0-2) gave up five runs for his second straight game Monday night in a 6-3 loss to the Angels.

Collin Cowgill and David Freese hit two-run homers in the fifth inning as Los Angeles erased an early 3-0 deficit. Both homers came after Detwiler walks. Detwiler got within one out of getting out of the sixth inning. He has struggled to a 9.00 ERA in 10 innings of work.

"All day, falling behind. Never getting the hitters defensive," Detwiler said to the Associated Press. "I had command early in that first inning and then lost it and never really found it again."
