Bottom of order tops for Orioles today (O's win 8-0)

NEW YORK - The Orioles have scored three runs off Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka for the second time this season. Tanaka hasn't allowed more than three runs in his 15 major league starts. The damage is being done down below. No. 8 hitter Jonathan Schoop has a home run and RBI grounder, and No. 9 hitter Caleb Joseph has a sacrifice fly. J.J. Hardy led off the seventh with a single and took third on Manny Machado's double into right-center field. Schoop followed with his ground ball to short to increase the lead to 2-0, and Machado scored on Joseph's fly ball to center. The Orioles actually tried a suicide squeeze with Joseph at the plate, but he bunted the ball foul. Macahdo would have scored easily. When's the last time you saw the Orioles attempt one? Schoop began the day batting .222 with 19 RBIs. Joseph was batting .132 with four RBIs. Chris Tillman entered the bottom of the seventh at 96 pitches, 56 for strikes. He's shooting for his third consecutive quality start. Update: Tillman has a shutout through the seventh after stranding runners on the corners. He's likely done after throwing 114 pitches, 67 for strikes. Tillman has allowed four hits, walked four and struck out two. Kelly Johnson walked with one out and Ichiro Suzuki reached with two outs on Chris Davis' error, but Brett Gardner grounded into a force. Tillman has allowed four runs in his last three starts over 20 innings. Update II: The Orioles broke open the game in the top of the eighth, scoring four runs to lead 7-0. J.J. Hardy drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double, and he scored on Manny Machado's single. The Yankees committed two errors in the inning, the most controversial on third baseman Kelly Johnson's throw that sailed into the seats behind first after Steve Pearce's take-out slide. Pearce didn't come close to the bag. Pearce extended his hitting streak to five games, tying his season high. He has two hits in each of those games. With seven scoreless innings from Tillman today, Orioles starters have posted a 1.02 ERA in the series by allowing two earned runs over 17 2/3 innings. The starters' ERA is 0.76 in the last four games. T.J. McFarland is working the eighth after Tillman's third consecutive quality start. Update III: Game over. The Orioles win their third straight series on the road with an 8-0 victory over the Yankees before 47,493 at Yankee Stadium. The Orioles (39-35) have their seventh shutout of the season, and they're four games above .500 for the first time since May 16. They've won four of their last five games. This is the first time that the Orioles have won three consecutive road series since July and August, 2012. The Orioles now trail the Blue Jays by 1 1/2 games in the American League East.
