Double-A Bowie left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez will miss his scheduled start tomorrow night due to a sprained knee.
The Orioles' No. 3 prospect according to Baseball America, Rodriguez came up with the injury yesterday during normal-between starts weightlifting. The injury is not considered serious, but Rodriguez is likely headed for the minor league disabled list.
Rodriguez saw a doctor who diagnosed the injury as a sprain. The organization now wants to give Rodriguez some time to rest and recover.
He has gone 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in his first three starts this year. Over 16 innings, he's allowed 19 hits with five walks and 12 strikeouts.
The 21-year-old Rodriguez is a consensus Top 100 prospect. He was ranked No. 43 by ESPN, No. 61 by Baseball Prospectus, No. 65 by Baseball America and No. 68 by MLB.com.
Rodriguez would become the second top pitching prospect to go on the Baysox's DL this year. Right-hander Zach Davies went on the Bowie DL after taking a line drive off his right forearm on April 12. But Davies, the club's 11th-ranked prospect, is expected to come off the DL next week and will likely start on Wednesday for Bowie.
Meanwhile, Delmarva outfielder Mike Yastrzemski did not start again tonight for the Shorebirds. He has missed two games with a tight groin but should be back in the lineup soon.
