Bowie's Branden Kline to have PRP injection, plus other minor league updates

As of late this morning, there was no information available yet on Dylan Bundy's MRI today but the Orioles at this point are expecting the same news from yesterday - that the shoulder issue is on the minor side.

Bundy-Spring-Throws-White.jpgToday's precautionary MRI was just to take a closer look, but if this does in fact turn out to be shoulder/rotater cuff tendinitis, it could set Bundy back at least a couple of weeks. He would likely need to take a week or so off from throwing. Then he would likely have to throw a few bullpen sessions before he returns to pitch in a game.

Bundy felt some shoulder soreness the day after his most recent start, last Thursday at Trenton, when he pitched four scoreless innings. But in an interview in Bowie yesterday, he said he felt the issue was not serious.

"Just soreness in one of the cuff muscles, so hopefully we just take some anti-inflammatories and get it taken care of," he said.

Here are some other minor league injury updates:

* Bowie right-hander Branden Kline is going to have a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection in his right elbow and then rest for six weeks, with no throwing during that time.

Kline had an appointment with Dr. James Andrews in Florida yesterday and his evaluation matched that of the Orioles doctors.

Last Wednesday, Kline left a start at Trenton after 1 2/3 innings with right elbow discomfort and tenderness in the flexor mass area. Ranked as the Orioles' No. 26 prospect by Baseball America, Kline is 3-3 with an ERA of 3.66 in eight Baysox starts.

* Bowie right-hander Matt Hobgood is set to throw a simulated game today at Prince George's Stadium. If he clears that hurdle fine, he will be activated off the Bowie disabled list soon. He went on the DL in mid-April with shoulder soreness.

* It was a tough night last night for Single-A Delmarva as three players left their game in Hickory, N.C., with injuries. Pitcher Sebastian Vader left due to shoulder tightness, pitcher Zeke McGranahan exited with elbow pain and catcher Jonah Heim has a sprained foot after injuring it sliding into second base. All three are going on the disabled list.

With the Shorebirds playing today - their game at Hickory started at 11 a.m. - they will be shorthanded until the O's can replace those players on the roster tomorrow.

* Delmarva right-hander Derrick Bleeker has a strained elbow. He had a second MRI yesterday after the first was inconclusive. He is on the DL.

* Single-A Frederick catcher Chance Sisco may be activated by the Keys as soon as tomorrow. He has been out since April 25 with a strained oblique. Sisco caught seven games in extended spring training and had 30 at-bats to prepare for his return to Frederick.
