SARASOTA, Fla. - Dylan Bundy is making his spring training debut on Thursday against the Phillies in Clearwater, taking the first act of his Grapefruit League season on the road.
Bundy threw a simulated game yesterday on one of the back fields at the Ed Smith Stadium complex leading into Thursday's assignment.
Andrew Cashner joined Bundy in the simulated game and is nearing his debut. The Orioles haven't listed a starter for Friday afternoon against the Rays.
Alex Cobb will pitch in a sim game before his first start in the Grapefruit League, so he's slotted behind Bundy and Cashner in the early spring rotation. Cobb threw a bullpen session yesterday in Sarasota.
Mike Wright starts on Tuesday against the Rays. Also available to pitch are John Means, Yefry Ramirez, Josh Rogers and Pedro Araujo.
Lots of fifth starter candidates on display.
The Rays are starting left-hander Ryan Merritt and also list Emilio Pagan, Adam Kolarek, Austin Pruitt, Diego Castillo and Jalen Beeks. Kolarek pitched at Catonsville High School and the University of Maryland.
Gabriel Ynoa starts Wednesday against the Red Sox, as the Orioles make another trip to Fort Myers. Turn left instead of right at the Daniels Parkway exit.
Making the trip today from minor league camp are pitchers Zach Muckenhirn, Tyler Erwin, Tanner Chleborad, Luis Ysla and DJ Snelton and infielder Mason McCoy.
The Orioles brought catchers Martin Cervenka and Cael Brockmeyer to back up starter Austin Wynns.
Former Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop is in the Twins lineup today and batting third.
