Checking in on the minor leagues

Here are some notes from each of the Orioles' full-season affiliates: Triple-A Norfolk's Ryan Adams enters today's 5:05 p.m. contest with Durham riding an eight-game hitting streak, during which he's hit .344 (11-for-32) with two home runs, three doubles, two RBI and six runs scored. Eleven of Adams' 23 hits have gone for extra bases, as he is tied for second in the International League with nine doubles. A hit today would give him Norfolk's longest hitting streak of 2012, surpassing eight-game stretches by Xavier Avery and Joe Mahoney. With a two-run double in last night's win, Bill Hall has now hit safely in seven straight contests, batting .367 (11-for-30) with two home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored. Since joining the Tides on April 25, Hall has hit .615 (8-for-13) against left-handed pitching. Jason Berken starts today for Norfolk. He has an ERA of 1.35 in four Triple-A starts with lefty batters hitting .200 against him and right-handed hitters at .306. Double-A Bowie's LJ Hoes extended his hitting streak to 10 games last night with a four-hit game. It is now the longest streak for a Baysox player this season. During the streak he has hit .436 (17-for-39). Hoes is now ninth in the league in batting average, fifth in hits and fourth in on-base percentage. It is also the second longest active hitting streak in the Eastern League. Bowie is 12-16 overall, 5-9 at home and 1-7 in one-run games. After winning the 2011 Carolina League championship, this year the Frederick Keys are off to a 9-16 start and in last place in their division, 4 1/2 games behind. Frederick is batting just .235 as a team and its ERA of 3.96 ranks fifth in the eight-team league. Lefty Rick Zagone is 2-0 and his 1.31 ERA ranks second in the league Reliever Clay Schrader is 1-0 with an ERA of 0.57 and, in 15 2/3 innings, has given up five hits with 10 walks and 22 strikeouts. Single-A Delmarva has now lost five of its last six games to fall to 13-14 on the year going into tonight's game at Charleston. The Shorebirds were swept in a three-game series at Savannah by a 20-2 score. Delmarva has scored just seven runs over the last five games. Right-hander David Baker, the Orioles' 14th-round selection in 2009, was added to the roster yesterday. He is expected to work out of the bullpen. Baker made nine starts for the Shorebirds last season and went 3-4 with a 2.82 ERA. Jake Cowan was placed on the temporary inactive list.
