Chen and pitching updates (O's down 10-2)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Wei-Yin Chen may not recognize Grapefruit League hitters today. Maybe that's why he's struggling through three innings. Chen has allowed five runs and seven hits, with two walks, two strikeouts and a hit batter. He's served up back-to-back home runs to Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, and the Philadelphia Phillies have taken a 5-0 lead. Chen has thrown 69 pitches, 44 for strikes, in only his third start outside of Twin Lakes Park. Ben Revere struck out leading off the top of the first, but Jimmy Rollins doubled, Utley and Howard homered and Michael Young singled. Former Orioles minor league catcher Steve Lerud walked leading off the top of the second, but Chen got a double play and line drive to shortstop J.J Hardy. Eight Phillies came to the plate in the third inning. Rollins singled, Howard was hit by a pitch and Domonic Brown and John Mayberry Jr. had run-scoring singles. Lerud walked again to load the bases before pitcher Aaron Cook grounded out. The Orioles have one hit through three innings, a double by Nolan Reimold in the third inning. Reimold stole third base, but Nate McLouth bounced out to first. Monday's starter is TBA, since Zach Britton has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Kevin Gausman will start Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers, and Jake Arrieta will pitch at the minor league camp. Steve Johnson will start Wednesday night against the New York Yankees in Sarasota. Update: Utley homered again off Chen in the fourth inning, a two-run shot after Manny Machado's error. Chen was charged with six earned runs (seven total) and eight hits in 3 1/3 innings, with two walks, two strikeouts, a hit batter and three home runs. I have him down for 79 pitches, 52 for strikes. Jim Johnson replaced him and served up a three-run homer to Brown after walking Howard and giving up a single to Young. Phillies 10, Orioles 0. Update II: Hardy's two-run double in the fourth inning broke up the shutout. Brian Roberts and Matt Wieters singled before Hardy came to the plate. Johnson was charged with three runs and four hits in one inning, with one walk and three strikeouts.
